Everything you’re wondering.
The honest answers we give in consultations every week. Still stuck? Ask us anything — it’s free.
Getting started.
If something feels heavy, stuck or confusing — anxiety, low mood, burnout, grief, relationship strain — therapy can help. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis; many clients simply want a steady space to understand themselves better.
Mostly, we listen. Your therapist will ask what brought you in, what you’d like to be different, and any background that feels relevant. There’s no test to pass — the first session is about comfort, fit and shaping a plan together.
No. You can book directly — no referral, no gatekeeping. If you plan to use insurance, we’ll help you check whether your plan needs any authorization first.
It depends on your goals. Some clients come for a focused stretch of 8–12 sessions; others stay longer for deeper work. We review progress together regularly, so therapy lasts as long as it’s useful — never longer.
Sessions & formats.
Yes — every service is available over secure video, and many clients mix online and in-person sessions. Online work is private, encrypted and just as effective for most concerns. You’ll need to be in Virginia during sessions for licensing reasons.
Yes. We work with couples of every kind and at every stage, and with teens (13+) alongside their families. Everyone in the room gets heard — our role is to hold the whole relationship, not take sides.
Adults of all ages for individual and couples work, and teens 13+ for our teen & family service. For children under 13, parent coaching is usually the most effective starting point — and we can refer you to trusted play therapists.
Absolutely — fit is everything, and no one takes it personally. Tell us directly and we’ll rematch you quickly, carrying your context forward so you never start from zero.
Money & privacy.
Sessions run from $160 depending on the service and clinician. We’re in network with several major plans, provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, and hold reduced-fee spots every month. Full details live on our fees page.
Yes — everything you share is confidential, from your very first message. The only exceptions are the rare safety situations your therapist explains clearly at the start, such as risk of serious harm.
Life happens — just give us 24 hours’ notice and there’s no charge. Later cancellations and missed sessions are billed at the full fee, since your therapist held the hour for you. You can read the full policy on our cancellation page.
We keep brief, secure clinical notes as required by law. They’re yours — you can request a copy any time, and we’ll walk through them with you so nothing feels mysterious.
